Powering a Clean and Secure Energy Future

The UAE Nuclear Mission marks a historic achievement in the nation’s journey toward sustainable development. At the center of this mission is the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant—the first nuclear power plant in the Arab world—designed to generate up to 5.6 GW of clean electricity, supplying around 25% of the UAE’s power needs.

Nuclear energy plays a critical role in the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy by delivering reliable, 24/7 carbon-free electricity. Unlike intermittent renewable sources, nuclear power provides stable baseload energy, strengthening grid reliability while complementing the country’s expanding solar capacity.

From the outset, the program has been built on the highest standards of safety, transparency, and international cooperation. Working closely with the IAEA and regulated by the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), the UAE has positioned its nuclear program as a global model for peaceful and responsible nuclear energy development.

Beyond clean power, the mission has driven economic growth, created high-skilled jobs, and developed a new generation of Emirati nuclear professionals—demonstrating that strong safety culture and workforce competence are central to long-term success.

The UAE Nuclear Mission is more than an energy project; it is a strategic investment in energy security, environmental responsibility, and technological leadership—powering the nation’s future with confidence and sustainability.
